Nels' Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Who is your target audience?
Anyone within throwing distance makes a good target. I've thrilled groups of all kinds and sizes, from bankers to bikers and 20 to 20,000 people. I provide entertainment for all ages, assembly programs for youth, and keynotes for adults (or people who closely resemble adults).

How far will you travel?
The sky is the limit... though I prefer to work on the ground. Really, I'll go just about anywhere. I've worked everywhere from New York to Los Angeles and Manitoba to Mexico, as well as exotic places like Bermuda and Cheektowaga. I can even do a visual comedy variety act for international audiences.

What are your fees?
Reasonable. Some of my contemporaries ask $5K to $50K per event. I'm usually less. Contact me for a quote based on your event, date, and location. Be sure to ask about regional, non-profit, and other discounts.

How far ahead do you book?
Some dates are reserved a year in advance and some only weeks before. Basically, book as early as you can because clients often want the same dates, and attempts to clone myself have proven unsuccessful.

How long are your programs?
It's up to you, although 24-hour programs require extra caffeine. Typically, shows are 30-60 minutes, keynotes are 60-90 minutes, and assembly programs are 45 minutes. I've also done everything from two hour variety shows to full day seminars with other performers and presenters.

What are your technical requirements?
I can work in almost any clean well-lit space. Padded walls make me feel at home, but they're not required. For banquets, theatres, and big productions, guidelines can be provided to help make your event a success.

Did you study Red Skelton? Dick Van Dyke? Steve Martin?
While I've been influenced by many comedians from the silent film era to modern times, I strive to develop my own material and style. Still, I'm flattered by comparisons like these. (People also say that I look like Orlando Bloom.)

Are you always silly?
Yes, except for when I'm not. I believe laughter is a gift that can promote joy, health, and productivity... as well as faith. For more of my thoughts on this, see Let There Be Laughter.
